WhatsApp AI: Document Sharing & New AI Tab Rolling Out

WhatsApp is expanding its in-app AI assistant by introducing document-sharing support for Meta AI on Android. This new feature is currently available to a limited group of beta testers. Users will soon be able to upload files directly within Meta AI chats. This allows the AI to summarize, explain, and analyze content from those documents. WABetaInfo reports this move is part of Meta's strategy to make AI a core part of the WhatsApp experience. The update also puts Meta AI in closer competition with platforms like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google Gemini, which already support document uploads. Meta is also redesigning how users access Meta AI, introducing a dedicated AI tab in the navigation bar. This new tab will be a central hub for AI activities, including text and voice conversations, image generation, and accessing suggested prompts. Users can share files through the attachment menu inside a Meta AI conversation or directly from external apps. Once uploaded, Meta AI can process the full document, potentially improving its ability to understand context and provide accurate responses. This could be useful for tasks like summarizing reports or extracting key information without leaving WhatsApp. This development means users might no longer need to switch to other AI platforms for document analysis.
