Anthropic previously highlighted the cyber capabilities of its Mythos model. The company introduced Fable, a public-facing version with cybersecurity protections. However, this rollout was short-lived. US authorities informed Anthropic that they believed a bypass existed for safeguards designed to prevent the model from being used to identify cybersecurity vulnerabilities. Anthropic stated that this bypass exposed only minor weaknesses. The Trump administration directed Anthropic to prevent foreign nationals from accessing Fable 5 and Mythos 5. In response, Anthropic disabled access to both models globally. An Amazon spokesperson confirmed that governments seek their counsel on potential security risks, but they do not share details of these discussions. The restrictions are an export control measure, but some experts criticize their broad scope. This matters because it highlights ongoing tensions between AI development and national security concerns.
